I started pressing dolls in 2003 by hacking a hydraulic press. All of the dolls were from Goodwill. Initially the work was a reaction to a text that I read by Walter Benjamin. The pressed dolls went through a transformation that left them flat. When I photographed them I staged them but . Later I reproduced some dolls by hand crafting them out of molds, making my own production line of flat dolls.
The Bachelor season five “bled” into scenes from Mary Poppins. Machine sewn, paper and thread. I tried to understand if somehow growing up with Marry Poppins affected our collective imagination in finding true love.
